Scotland’s newest musical, Sunshine on Leith, featuring the songs of The Proclaimers, opened at Dundee Rep Theatre in April 2007 playing to full houses before a hugely successful tour throughout Scotland. Written by playwright and TV writer Stephen Greenhorn, directed by James Brining Sunshine on Leith had a cast of 15 performers including members of Dundee Rep’s Ensemble and actors from the West End stage. A live nine-piece band was put together under musical director Hilary Brooks and choreographer was Lizzie Gee who has worked on many West End shows.
A fantastic, fun and poignant night’s entertainment, Sunshine on Leith follows the highs and lows of young ex-soldiers Ally and Davy as they return to their lives back home in Scotland. Families, relationships and life in Leith are not all plain sailing in this exceptional love story about everyday life in Scotland.
‘such a perfect and perfectly unexpected marriage of music and theatre’
