The Ensemble Company
Scotland's only resident ensemble company of actors.
September 1999 heralded the start of a project called NEW WAYS OF WORKING in which Dundee Rep received unprecedented funding from the Lottery through the Scottish Arts Council, national and local trusts and members of the public, for a full-time company of actors to be based at the Rep for a period of 3 years. The doors of the newly refurbished building reopened on one of the most ambitious experiments in Scottish Theatre for many years. Dundee Rep’s resident company was born – a company of 14 talented actors, including 3 apprentices who would be with the company for the duration of one year, for every year of the project. Initially for a period of 3 years, NEW WAYS OF WORKING allowed for an exciting creative process that transformed Dundee Rep into Scotland's premier producing theatre company, increased its profile throughout the UK and latterly internationally.
Under the artistic direction of James Brining, the Ensemble model has been further developed with a core company of familiar faces being supplemented by additional actors. The Ensemble continues to broaden the type of work it undertakes to help realise the potential of Scotland's most unique artistic resources.
